Reading

This week we read The Albertosaurus Mystery.  We worked on suffix -ly, drawing conclusions, words with /j/ and /s/, adjectives, and articles.  It

Was another crazy week of weather and trying to fit everything in.   

Writing

We worked on pen pal letters and made Valentine rebus cards.

Social Science

We finished our science and got a little start on Social Studies, but with late starts and early dismissals, we had to use that time to make up reading and math.  

Math

We finished chapter 6 and started on chapter 7 which is more division.  

Miscellaneous

We enjoyed our Valentine Party.  Thank you to all the parents that have made our parties such a success.  Conferences are Tuesday, Feb. 19, and your time that was scheduled is an hour early.  Conferences are from 3-7, with an early dismissal on the 19th. The class has earned a popcorn party and we will have it on Friday, February 22.  Your child may bring a drink of their choice.

Reading

This week we have been reviewing for the Unit reading test.  We ended up taking part of the test during Science time to get it completed this week. Next week, we will start a new story, but our spelling and reading test will be on Thursday due to no school on Friday.  

Writing

We have finished up our Cloud books and are working on letters for our parents for conferences.

Social Science

We are finishing up our Chapter on Force and Motion. Next week we should have it wrapped up and can move on to Social Studies.

Math

Miscellaneous

We earned a pajama day last week,and I have been putting it off for warmer weather.  We are going to try and have it on Wed, Feb. 9 next week. Conferences next Monday and Thursday.  Reminder that if you have one on Thursday night and didn’t call in to change the time, your time moved up one hour.  So if you were scheduled on Thursday at 5:00, your conference is now at 4.

Reading

This week we read the story The Extra Good Sunday.   We worked on using a thesaurs.  The skills we focused on were understanding characters, forming the past tense, and words with er, ir, ur, and or.  Next week we will be reviewing for the Unit 3 Skills test and taking that. Please review the vocabulary words with your child.  The skills we will be testing on are: characters, story structure, sequence, author’s purpose, main idea/details, infer/predict, graphic sources, fact/opinion, drawing conclusions, and cause/effect.  These skills can be reviewed on 1XL in the Language Arts sections. It is a good review of these skills.

Writing

With the snow day, we have been making up other subject work, so we haven’t done much writing.  We will still be working on our cloud books next week.

Social Science

We have finished up this chapter 7 with the exception of our cloud books.  We have started our last science chapter-Forces and Motion.

Math

We have started Chapter 6 on division.  Please keep practicing the multiplication facts with your child even if they are done with the timed tests.  I have several students that still have a ways to go before they are done with timed tests.

Miscellaneous

We finally had our read and feed.  Please read stories for Lesson 11, 12, 13, 14, and 15 and return with a note on Tuesday that your child has read those stories to you.  I will give them money for returning the book and reading the stories to you.

Reading

This week we reviewed and took the Unit 2 reading test.  The test should have come home yesterday.

Writing

We are working on writing letters to our pen pals, and our special project.  We also wrote invitations to our play. The invitations should have come home today.  

Social Science

We finished Chapter 3 and tested.  Tests should have come home yesterday also.  Our next chapter is Changes in Ecosystems. I plan on getting through this chapter and testing before Christmas break.    

Math

We are still working on multiplication.  I have a few students that almost done with the timed tests and a few that haven’t been making much progress.  Please help them study for the timed tests. We have them on Tuesdays and Thursdays.

Miscellaneous

Our Christmas program for parents will be Monday, Dec. 17 at 9:00.  Please RSVP me so I can make sure we have enough chairs in our room.

Next week we will be taking the STAR reading test on Thursday, please make sure your child has a good night sleep.  My Wildcat of the Week is Gavin.

Reading

This week read The Young Thomas Edison,  We worked on categorizing and classifying, using main ideas and details, words with au, aw, al, o, and pronouns.  We will not have a new story next week or have spelling words, since we only have a short week. We will be working on reading our parts for our play, A Grand Christmas. We also not have any spelling words.

Writing

We are still working on a special project.  We wrote about the Veterans’ Program and what we are thankful for.  

Social Science

We will be finishing up our Chapter 3 next week.  We will be reviewing after Thanksgiving, with our test being on Wed. November 28.  

Math

We finished Chapter 3. Timed tests are on Tuesday and Thursdays.  Our math test will be on Tuesday, November 20. Our next chapter will still be on multiplication.

Miscellaneous

Our Christmas program for parents will be Monday, Dec. 17 at 9:00.  Please RSVP me so I can make sure we have enough chairs in our room.

There will be no DOL next week.  The class has earned a popcorn party.  Your child may bring a drink of their choice on Monday.  I will be making popcorn and we will watch a movie. Way to go class!

Reading

This week read The Harvest Birds.  We worked on multiple meaning words, drawing conclusions, and silent letters kn and wr.  Next week, we will have no challenge spelling. We will also have our spelling and reading test on Thursday, due to no school on Friday.

Writing

We finished letters to you to share at conferences.  We wrote about the Harvest Festival and what we are thankful for.

Social Science

We finished Chapter 2 tested.  We will be starting our next chapter, Ecosystems and Adaptations.

Math

We started Chapter 3 and multiplying.  We have had 2 timed tests already. We will be having 2 a week until everyone has passed the multiplication facts.  Timed tests will be on Tuesday and Thursdays.

Miscellaneous

Thank you to everyone that helped out with the Harvest Festival.  The kids had a great time. You should have received a conference sheet.  Conferences are Monday and Thursday next week. No school on Friday. Spelling Words

Reading

This week read What Illustrators Do. We worked on synonyms, using text and graphic features, three letter clusters, and verb tenses.  

Writing

We are writing letters to our parents for conferences.  

Social Science

We are finishing up Chapter 2 this week and next week. Our Chapter 2 test will be next Friday, Nov. 1

Math

We are finishing Chapter 2 and will test on Tuesday next week.  The chapter book should have come home on Thursday, use it to study for the test.     Your child should have brought home multiplication cards for 4. Please practice them.  After we start the next chapter we will be having multiplication tests twice weekly.

Miscellaneous

The Halloween party will be next Wed.  The parade starts at 2:10.
