Reading

This week we reviewed and took the Unit 2 reading test.  The test should have come home yesterday.

Writing

We are working on writing letters to our pen pals, and our special project.  We also wrote invitations to our play. The invitations should have come home today.  

Social Science

We finished Chapter 3 and tested.  Tests should have come home yesterday also.  Our next chapter is Changes in Ecosystems. I plan on getting through this chapter and testing before Christmas break.    

Math

We are still working on multiplication.  I have a few students that almost done with the timed tests and a few that haven’t been making much progress.  Please help them study for the timed tests. We have them on Tuesdays and Thursdays.

Miscellaneous

Our Christmas program for parents will be Monday, Dec. 17 at 9:00.  Please RSVP me so I can make sure we have enough chairs in our room.

Next week we will be taking the STAR reading test on Thursday, please make sure your child has a good night sleep.  My Wildcat of the Week is Gavin.

Reading

This week read The Young Thomas Edison,  We worked on categorizing and classifying, using main ideas and details, words with au, aw, al, o, and pronouns.  We will not have a new story next week or have spelling words, since we only have a short week. We will be working on reading our parts for our play, A Grand Christmas. We also not have any spelling words.

Writing

We are still working on a special project.  We wrote about the Veterans’ Program and what we are thankful for.  

Social Science

We will be finishing up our Chapter 3 next week.  We will be reviewing after Thanksgiving, with our test being on Wed. November 28.  

Math

We finished Chapter 3. Timed tests are on Tuesday and Thursdays.  Our math test will be on Tuesday, November 20. Our next chapter will still be on multiplication.

Miscellaneous

Our Christmas program for parents will be Monday, Dec. 17 at 9:00.  Please RSVP me so I can make sure we have enough chairs in our room.

There will be no DOL next week.  The class has earned a popcorn party.  Your child may bring a drink of their choice on Monday.  I will be making popcorn and we will watch a movie. Way to go class!

Reading

This week read The Harvest Birds.  We worked on multiple meaning words, drawing conclusions, and silent letters kn and wr.  Next week, we will have no challenge spelling. We will also have our spelling and reading test on Thursday, due to no school on Friday.

Writing

We finished letters to you to share at conferences.  We wrote about the Harvest Festival and what we are thankful for.

Social Science

We finished Chapter 2 tested.  We will be starting our next chapter, Ecosystems and Adaptations.

Math

We started Chapter 3 and multiplying.  We have had 2 timed tests already. We will be having 2 a week until everyone has passed the multiplication facts.  Timed tests will be on Tuesday and Thursdays.

Miscellaneous

Thank you to everyone that helped out with the Harvest Festival.  The kids had a great time. You should have received a conference sheet.  Conferences are Monday and Thursday next week. No school on Friday. Spelling Words

This week read What Illustrators Do. We worked on synonyms, using text and graphic features, three letter clusters, and verb tenses.  

Writing

We are writing letters to our parents for conferences.  

Social Science

We are finishing up Chapter 2 this week and next week. Our Chapter 2 test will be next Friday, Nov. 1

Math

We are finishing Chapter 2 and will test on Tuesday next week.  The chapter book should have come home on Thursday, use it to study for the test.     Your child should have brought home multiplication cards for 4. Please practice them.  After we start the next chapter we will be having multiplication tests twice weekly.

Miscellaneous

The Halloween party will be next Wed.  The parade starts at 2:10.

Reading

This week read Max’s Words.  We worked on sequence of events, adding -er and -or to words, words with VCV pattern, and verbs.  Check with your child how they are doing with their reading counts points.

Writing

We sent of letters to our pen pals in Brandon.  We worked on our Grandparents’ program. We will be working on writing a letter to you for conferences, and then we will be working on a secret project next.

Social Science

We are still working on Chapter 2.  Please send a baby picture of your child and a family picture if you have one, on Monday.  Something without names on them. We are going to try and guess who’s baby picture goes with which child and talk about what traits you have passed on to your child.   

Math

We are working on chapter 2, graphing.  We are also learning to count by whatever the scale is on the graphs.  (Preparing for the multiplication chapter that is coming up next). Your child should have brought home multiplication cards for 2 and 4.  Please practice them. After we start the next chapter we will be having multiplication tests twice weekly. Miscellaneous

The kids earned a read and feed last week but I told them we had to wait until next week because we were busy with the program.  Your child may bring a sleeping bag, blanket, or pillow if they wish. They may also bring a drink and snack of their choice to eat while they are reading.  October 26 is an 11:40 early dismissal. The Harvest Festival is Oct. 31 at 2:10. Please let me know if you are on that committee and haven’t heard from the hostesses.

Reading

This week reviewed and took our Unit 1 reading test.  Up until this time, I’ve been reading the weekly reading tests to your child.  After this, your child will read them to themselves. We will also start challenge spelling. We will have pretests on Monday.  Full explanation is on the weekly home letter.

Please speak with your child and see how they are doing on their required reading counts points.  Everyone must have 15 points in their reading range, which they have a card with that range on it.

Writing

We are practicing for the Grandparents’ Program.  I have quite a few that have not let me know who is coming.  I need to know so we can write our introductions. If you have a child that doesn’t have anyone coming, let me know now, so I can find them an honorary  grandparent for the program.

Social Science

We tested on Chapter 1.  We just started on Chapter 2, Living Things Grow and Change.  We will also be doing some practice for the grandparent program during Science time.

Math

We are finished Chapter 1 and reviewed several days.  This is by far the hardest chapter we have but it is using skills that we will be using all year--rounding and regrouping to add and subtract.  So, if your child didn’t do well, we will be still working on it through out the year. It is very obvious several students just don’t know their basic math facts and that makes it even harder.  Our next chapter is representing and interpreting data-graphs.

You should be getting notified soon if you are on the Halloween party planning.  If you are on the schedule and don’t get notified soon, please let me know. Grandparents’ Program is Friday, October 19, 1:15 PM.   I still need to hear from many of you who is coming. Please send a note or email me so we can write introductions. October 26 is early dismissal.

Reading

This week read Roberto Clemente. We worked on cause and effect, long i, prefix mis-, and plural nouns.  Next week we will be reviewing for the Unit 1 test and then taking the test on Wednesday and Thursday.  I have been reading the weekly tests on Friday. After the unit test, the students will be reading the test on Fridays themselves.  Please review the vocabulary words for the test. Your child will need to read the words and understand the meaning of each word and how it can be used in a sentence.  Please review these words: principal, fans, foggy, strolled, stretch, guilty, figure, honest, raise, proud, pronounced, contacted, soared, jury, convinced, slammed, block, crew, disappears.  The students will be tested on story structure, infer/predicting, drawing conclusions, analyze & evaluating, characters, compare & contrast, antonyms, multiple meaning words, and base words with endings.  

Writing

We are still working on several items for the Grandparent’s Day program, on October 19, at 1:15.   Please send the names of the grandparents that will be attending the program for your child so we can write introductions.  Also, please notify me if your chlld won’t have any grandparent here for the program, and we will find an “honorary” grandparent for them.

Social Science

We will be finishing up Chapter 1 Living things next week.  We are learning about plants and their structures, and types of animals.  The test is on Monday. Your child should have brought the packets home and Science book along with a study guide.  Your child will need to study. Please send back the book and the signed note that your child studied on Monday for an extra  credit point and $$$.

Math

We are finishing up chapter 1 and will be reviewing next week.  We will be taking the Math test on Wed. Please practice the basic math facts, rounding, and regrouping in addition and subtraction.
