Reading
This week The Trial of Cardigan Jones.  We worked on compound words, drawing conclusions, long vowels and kinds of sentences.  Next week we will be taking the Star reading test and the FAST reading test. Your child can access thinkcentral to reread and practice skills in reading.  They have the same password for reading and math.
Writing
We have be working on various pieces to put in portfolios.
Social Science
We are still working on Chapter 1-Living Things.  We are learning what living and nonliving things need.
Math
We are working on odd and even numbers and number patterns.  We are also working on rounding and estimating to nearest 10 and 100.  Please practice this at home. I have also noticed there are a few students that  don’t know their basic math facts to 18. Please practice those also. We got
set up on 1XL, that is a website that has math, language arts, science, and social studies.  You can pick the skill we are working on each of those so it is great extra practice. Prodigy and Sumdog are also fun math practice sites.  Kids love them.
Miscellaneous
The caramel and peanut butter for the apples was yummy.  Thanks for the donation. The field trip was a great time.  We had a nice day. Thanks to Shawna Hickman, Aimee Koedam, Gina Huyser, and Lori Miller for coming along and chaperoning.  Next Friday will be an early dismissal. Our Grandparent Program will be October 19 at 1:15 in the Little Theater. I have moved back the Wildcats of the Week, to weeks that we have full weeks in class.  Mara will be our first Wildcat of the Week Sept. 24-28, then we will have a new Wildcat each week we have a full week. I will be sending home a note about what to bring. I had the biggest book order I have ever had in my teaching career of 25+ years.  We were able to get 45 new books for the classroom. I love that you are promoting the love of reading with your children. Pictures are Tuesday, Sept. 18. Dress up days next week for homecoming-Monday-color day and our color is white, Tuesday pictures, Thursday-pajama day, Friday-West Lyon apparel.
