Reading
This week read Destiny’s Gift.  We worked on antonyms, understanding characters, vowel pairs ai, ay, ee, ea, and sentence fragments.  We also took the Star reading test and each student got a reading range to work in. They will be expected to read books in that range for them to count for their reading counts points, unless they have talked to me about going higher or lower.  We also took the FAST reading test this week also. Please remind your child that they need 15 reading counts points for each month. Books that we read together in class do not count to those 15 points.
Writing
We are working on several items for the Grandparent’s Day program, on October 19, at 1:15.  Invitations will come home next week. Please send the names of the grandparents that will be attending the program for your child so we can write introductions.  Also, please notify me if your chlld won’t have any grandparent here for the program, and we will find an “honorary” grandparent for them.
Social Science
We are still working on Chapter 1-Living Things.  We are learning what living and nonliving things need. We learned about the structures of plants.
Math
We are still working on rounding and estimating to nearest 10 and 100.  Please practice this at home. The song I sent home helps. We worked on the break apart method or expanded method of numbers.. I have also noticed there are a few students that  don’t know their basic math facts to 18. Please practice those also. We got set up on 1XL, that is a website that has math, language arts, science, and social studies. You can pick the skill we are working on each of those so it is great extra practice.  Prodigy and Sumdog are also fun math practice sites. Kids love them.
Miscellaneous
We had fun with the dress up days.  We got a new student, so we will need 18 snacks each day.  The Inwood Kiwanis came and presented our class with dictionaries for everyone.  If you know someone in the Inwood Kiwanis, please tell them thank you.
